A main road between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield will close for a week while a major resurfacing project takes place.

The £260,000 scheme, which started on Monday, will repair the worn-out road surface between on Chequers between Howlands Roundabout in WGC and the roundabout at Great North Road/ French Horn Lane in Hatfield.

The work will be carried out between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday for seven nights and the road will be fully closed during this time.

Signed alternative routes will be in place.

Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We are sorry for any disruption or inconvenience caused by these essential maintenance works to improve your roads, but the work has to be carried out while the road is closed for the safety of our workers and all road users.

We would ask you to allow extra time for any journeys you make while the work is in progress.”

The work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances can arise and work may continue outside the advertised hours.

Further details about the works, including road closure and diversion information, will be available on
