TRAFFIC on the M25 is at a standstill as smoke from a nearby fire is blowing onto the motorway.

The motorway is closed in both directions between junctions 23 (A1M) and 25 (Enfield) because of a serious fire.

Black smoke has been billowing onto the motorway, making it hard to see, after trees caught fire at around 3pm on Dancers Hill Lane.

According to reports more than 50 firefighters are on the scene and canisters of gas have been exploding.

Police are helping to control the traffic.

Vehicles are queuing and travel time is, on both sides of the carriageway, about 40 minutes.

There is also congestion to J21a, A405 (St Albans) and to J26, A121 (Waltham Abbey).
