Long delays on A1(M) as trailer flips onto roof

A TRAILER carrying human waste crashed and flipped onto its roof – causing long delays for motorists as the effluence spilled into the road.

The accident happened at around 9.45am today (Wednesday).

A white Land Rover Defender was pulling a trailer containing portable toilets, when it lost control on the northbound carriageway of the A1(M) at junction six for Welwyn.

The trailer crashed into the central reservation and landed on its roof. Some of the contents from the toilets spilled across both carriageways.

One man was trapped in the crash, and had to be rescued by firefighters from Hatfield, WGC and Welwyn. he was uninjured in the accident.

The crash caused long delays in both directions. The northbound carriageway was closed completely at junction six as emergency services and the Highways Agency cleared the road of debris and waste.

Two lanes were also closed on the southbound carriageway.

Both carriageways have since re-opened.
