Long delays after multi car crash on A1(M)

MOTORISTS are being told to expect long delays northbound on the A1(M) this afternoon (Tuesday), following a crash between at least three cars.

The accident happened at around 3.20pm, on the northbound carriageway at junction six for Welwyn.

A white Ford Fiesta, a silver Peugeot 308 and a silver Volvo S60 are all believed to be involved.

A police spokesman said as many as “four or five” vehicles may have been involved in the collision, but it was unclear as the situation is still ongoing.

Ambulance and fire services are also on the scene, and it is understood one man has suffered cuts in the accident.

The road is currently blocked about a mile form junction seven for Stevenage, and motorists are being told to expect long delays.

The Highways Agency is reporting that the slip road onto the A1(M) at junction five is currently closed due to the crash, and is expected to re-open after 5pm.
