Brown, Britain’s fastest swimmer, was rested from the GB quartet for the freestyle relay heats at the Aquatics Centre today (Sunday).

However, the GB four of Simon Burnett, Grant Turner, James Disney-May and Craig Gibbons could only finish sixth in the first of two heats with a time of 3m 17.08s.

That wasn’t enough to qualify for this evening’s final, with only the top eight progressing.

The second heat was the quicker of the two, with Australia, United States and Russia likely to contest the medals tonight.

Hatfield Swimming Club member Brown later tweeted: “Things always happen for a reason! I can’t wait to race on Tuesday in the 100m Freestyle!”
