AN OSTEOPATH from Hatfield did her best to break the back of crime, by giving chase to a burglar and urging residents to lock their windows.

Heroine Caroline Penn, who runs the Penn Clinic, in Crawford Road, spotted a would-be cat burglar clambering over a fence on Monday afternoon, so immediately called police.

She then spotted someone coming out of her home.

Ms Penn told the WHT: “I thought ‘what’s he doing coming out of my back gate?’.

“I asked him ‘where have you come from?’ and he just mumbled something.”

The crook then fled the scene but courageous Caroline pursued him still on the phone to police and told them exactly where he was.

Ms Penn was eager to warn residents that now the summer is seemingly here finally to not leave their homes unsecure by leaving windows open.

She said: “People just forget [to lock windows] because the weather’s so hot.

“I just wanted to go out and tell everyone because it just makes me really angry.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 1pm on Monday by a member of the public who saw a man acting suspiciously and leaving a property in Crawford Road, Hatfield.

“The informant was able to follow the suspect through a number of streets and guide police officers to the location.”

n A 39-year-old man from Yorkshire was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and possession of Class A drugs.
