Store wars could be on the cards for Hatfield as yet another supermarket eyes up the town.

Low-cost grocery retailer Lidl has confirmed that it is keen to open a store in Hatfield.

If it does find a suitable location, it would be battling it out with Tesco, Aldi, Asda and several Co-ops for a slice of the consumer action.

Hatfield shoppers’ nearest Lidl is currently in Panshanger, WGC, and Lidl has confirmed it is looking to build on its success by opening more stores.

A Lidl spokesman said: “Hatfield is very much an area of interest for Lidl, however we have no specific sites in the town in mind at this present time.”
