LIBRARY jobs could be cut as redundancies have not been ruled out in a planned shake-up.

Public sector savings could see staff laid off or reduced opening hours at libraries after the belt-tightening.

A library source, who did not wish to be identified, claimed that a three-year plan was being weighed up by Hertfordshire County Council, which was considering axing 40 per cent of staff, with a third being laid off in the first year. He said: “The county council are planning to chop it. The cuts planned are going to be huge.”

But a council spokesman said: “We’re not ruling anything in or out.”
