A DISGRUNTLED party leader mourned the loss of an overthrown councillor.

Lib Dem leader Tony Skottowe was left smarting at the fashion in which colleague Nigel Quinton lost his seat in Handside ward at last night's count.

Cllr Skottowe, who retained his own Handside seat, described the night as a "curates egg" for his party.

On Mr Quinton, he told the WHT: "We are extremely disappointed to lose a very hardworking, competent councillor.

"For the people of the district the amount of work that he has done has been second to none."

He added: "We were disappointed with some of the tactics used during the Handside election.
