DECAYING trees that were cut down in Hatfield last month will be replaced by less than half the number that originally stood there.

Five trees of an as yet unknown species will be planted on the roundabout at the junction of Queensway, St Albans Road East, Wellfield Road and French Horn Lane.

Eleven trees were cut down after they were found to have severely decayed and the remaining stumps will now be poisoned and removed.

New trees will be planted sometime between November 2012 and March 2013.
