A LONG-SERVING Hatfield councillor admitted her sadness at being ousted at last night's count.

Former Labour stalwart Maureen Cook lost her seat on Welwyn Hatfield Council after she stood in a re-jigged Hatfield West ward.

Mrs Cook, who has held a seat for 16 years, blamed "gerrymandering" for losing out to a Conservative whitewash.

She said: "I am very sad. The boundary changes have cost me my seat.

"I feel sorry for the people of Hatfield because there are some lovely people there who I fear will no longer have their needs look after.
