A Knebworth woman is fundraising for a cervical cancer charity after it helped her through her own diagnosis.

Laura Burlingham, 38, was diagnosed with stage three cervical cancer in October last year before undergoing gruelling treatment.

She was supported by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, which helped her after the diagnosis, and after getting the all-clear two months ago Laura will tackle a 5k walk.

She said: “I want to make more women aware of cervical cancer and how it can be prevented as well as raising lots of money for this incredible charity.”

The event, Steps for Jo’s, will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London on Saturday, June 9, to mark the start of Cervical Screening Awareness Week.

Robert Music, chief executive of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, said: “It is thanks to the efforts of our amazing fundraisers such as Laura that we’re able to continue to support the thousands of women, family and their friends who are affected every year.”

Laura has quadrupled her initial target of £100 and hopes to raise even more leading up to the event.
