A long-established Knebworth business is being taken over and will next month relocate to Stevenage.

Builders’ merchant Chas Lowe & Sons in London Road is selling all trading assets to Gibbs & Dandy in a deal due to complete on March 31, and will cease to trade as an independent business.

Chas Lowe director Peter Lowe told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Gibbs and Dandy, with the majority of the existing Chas Lowe staff, are then operating from a new depot in Stevenage effective from the third of April.”

The Knebworth site is being sold to Hatfield-based developer McCarthy and Stone, but Mr Lowe said this was conditional on grant of planning permission for a proposed assisted living retirement complex.

He added: “Our customers and goodwill will migrate to Stevenage under the governance of the new company.”
