Knebworth Care Home’s manager has said she is “delighted” after it scooped a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report.

The London road facility was graded ‘good’ in all areas following an unannounced inspection – the first since it was taken over by new provider Care UK Community Partnerships Ltd.

Inspectors reported that Knebworth was caring and treated people with respect, staff were kind and friendly, the service was responsive, and residents’ needs were met in the way the wanted.

During the inspection, one person staying there said: “They are very attentive, even if I’m in my room they will come and find me for cups of tea, tell me lunch is ready and make sure I know what activities are on and ask if I would like to join in.

“They are very caring people, it’s a lovely place to be, a kind word and a cuddle is always on-board here.”

The home provides accommodation for up to 71 older people, some of whom live with dementia, and there were 50 staying there at the time of the inspection last month.

Another resident told inspectors: “I’m very happy here, they know me as an individual, not just another person that lives here.

“They care to ask about my life, what I have done and where I have been, they respect me and my visitors and my privacy.”

Inspectors went on to say that staff interacted with people in a “warm and caring” way.

It was also noted that they had been trained in how to safeguard people from avoidable harm, and were knowledgeable about the risks and signs of abuse.

One resident said: “I feel safe because of all the people around me, we are like a little community here. I don’t have any concerns.”

Knebworth’s home manager, Vera Moreira-Henocq, said: “I’m delighted the CQC’s inspectors have rated us ‘good’.

“We strive to create a caring, supportive atmosphere here at Knebworth, so it’s brilliant to have all of our hard work recognised by a national body.”

She added: “I’m incredibly proud of the team’s hard work adjusting to new procedures whilst maintaining quality care.

“Our ‘good’ rating just shows the dedication and commitment each one of them has to making Knebworth a fantastic place to live.”
