SIX firms shortlisted by the county council to build a waste incinerator next to a special school in Hatfield have been urged to choose another site for the facility.
Welwyn Hatfield Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Paul Zukowskyj has written to the chief executive of each firm to set out the "substantial" opposition to the incinerator, earmarked for New Barnfield, next to Southfield School in Travellers Lane.
The six firms, namely Covanta Energy, E.ON Energy from Waste, MVV Umwelt GmbH, the Shanks PFI Investments Ltd/Wheelabrator Technologies Inc consortium, the SITA UK Ltd consortium and Veolia Environmental Services, are currently drawing up their plans for the facility ahead of a September deadline.
For more from Mr Zukowskyj, see this week's Welwyn & Hatfield Times, out Wednesday.
