A BERSERK driver smashed another man in the face with a metal pole in a road rage attack in Welwyn Garden City.

The attack took place as the victim – a 39-year-old man from Welwyn Garden City – was driving in Stanborough Green at around 11am on July 10.

As he drove along the road, he approached a black Smart car driving in the opposite direction.

The road narrowed because cars were parked on the other side of the road so the victim stopped and then reversed to let the oncoming car through.

When the other driver passed he stopped and a row erupted.

The Smart car driver – a hulking bald brute – got out brandishing a metal pole.

He hit the other driver in the face with the weapon before he got back in the car and fled in the direction of Parkway.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

The attacker was described as “a white man in his 40s, of large build and balding”.

Pc Richard Brain said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident or who recognises the description of the man involved.

“If you have any information that could help our investigation, please get in touch.”

• Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference B1/12/1860.
