Herts Fire and Rescue Service tackled a major blaze at a farm last night (Tuesday, March 13).

Six engines were sent from Welwyn, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield to the site off Pottersheath Road near Rabley Heath, where a barn was totally ablaze at 9.15pm.

A fire service spokeswoman said there were no reports of injuries, and St Albans Fire Service tweeted that all the horses were unharmed.

UK Power Networks also attended as overhead electric cables were being affected.

Two hose reels, four jets, a thermal camera and lighting equipment were used to extinguish the blaze by 3.35am.

The cause has not yet been identified, the spokeswoman said, and an investigation is scheduled to take place today.

Updates to follow.
