The New QEII Hospital has issued a warning about the Norovirus

The New QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City has issued a warning about the "pretty unpleasant" Norovirus.

The hospital has urged people who have the Norovirus not to visit family or friends, go to their GP or A&E.

If you need medical advice, you are best to call the NHS on 111.

The New QEII gave the following statement: “Norovirus - also known as the winter vomiting bug - is around at the moment.

“It is pretty unpleasent, passed on easily and self-limiting. Symptoms begin normally 12 to 72 hours after someone picks up the infection and can last anywhere from 12 to 60 hours, but sometimes longer.

“If you get Norovirus, there is no treatment other than staying warm and drinking fluids. Practice good hand hygiene, especially after using the loo. Please don’t visit people, go to your GP or even worse, A&E. All you will do is spread the infection. If you need/want medical advice, just call NHS111.

“Stay well this winter and help keep Norovirus out of our hospitals!”
