STREETS in a village were evacuated following a major gas leak this lunchtime (Tuesday).
Police, the ambulance service and gas engineers were called to Knebworth at 12.45pm after a gas main ruptured in St Martin's Road.
A 200-metre cordon was put in place around the area, which included Knebworth Primary School.
Roads which were closed were St Martin's Road, London Road, Gun Road, Stevenage Road and Watton Road.

A police spokeswoman said the gas main was fixed and residents started being allowed back to their homes at about 2pm.
