THE "borderline" decision to close a popular post office could end up being challenged in the courts.

Handside post office, in Mardsen Road, WGC, was axed in November, despite fierce opposition from employees, customers and councillors.

But Dr Dennis Lewis, who set up a council of war to fight the closure, is imploring Post Office Ltd (POL) to review its decision, on the grounds that its evidence for closing the branch was incorrect.

In a letter to POL chairman Allan Leighton, the former Welwyn Hatfield councillor wrote: "There are no fewer than five serious factual inaccuracies, which lead me to believe that the assessment of the Handside post office was made on inaccurate data and was therefore fatally flawed."
