SILENCE fell over Hertsmere Borough Council earlier today (Thursday) as Holocaust Memorial Day was marked.
Borough mayor Linda Silver was joined by councillors, local clergy, council officers and schoolchildren for the service and a two-minute silence.
The service, held in the council chamber in Borehamwood, included readings, a short film and music from the Com.unity Choir.
Holocaust Memorial Day has been held on January 27 every year since 2001.
The date was chosen as it was on this day, in 1945, that the Soviet Army liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau.
