HERTSMERE MP James Clappison has congratulated his former assistant Chloe Smith following her victory in the Norwich North by-election.
Ms Smith, who overturned a Labour majority of more than 7,000 to win the seat, worked with Mr Clappison while on secondment to the Tories from her employer Deloitte and Touche.
In winning Thursday's poll, triggered when Dr Ian Gibson quit his post in June following the expenses furore, the 27-year-old also became the country's youngest MP.
Speaking to the Potters Bar Edition, Mr Clappison said: "She (Smith) is a very bright person and I think she will make a very good contribution to Parliament.
