A CHARITY golf day hosted by the mayor of Hertsmere has raised more than £6,500 for a soldiers’ charity.

Held at Potters Bar Golf Club in Darkes Lane, more than 70 people took part in the day, which raised at least £6,500 for Help For Heroes, which supports injured British soldiers returning from conflict.

Help for Heroes was chosen by mayor Linda Silver as her charity for the year in memory of her late father, Wolfe Lincoln, who was a colonel in the Royal Engineers.

The event was organised by Cllr Silver’s son, Steve Rosenbaum.

“The day was wonderful and I am so grateful to those who donated items to auction and to all those who took part,” Cllr Silver said.

“We raised a fantastic amount of money which is going to such a worthwhile cause.”
