FRIVOLOUS 999 calls are stretching an already busy emergency team this morning.

Police are urging the public to think carefully and only dial 999 in an emergency.

A police spokeswoman said calls were being received on the emergency line about children throwing snowballs.

She said: "Doe to the high number of calls we are currently receiving, we are asking people to only contact Hertfordshire Constabulary in the event of an emergency, by dialling 999.

"An emergency is when there is a risk of injury to someone, you suspect a crime is in progress or there is a serious incident that needs immediate police attendance.

"Thank you for your co-operation.
