THE future of policing in Hertfordshire in the wake of drastic Government spending cuts will be discussed at a public meeting today (Friday).

Hertfordshire Police Authority will meet at County Hall in Hertford this morning to consider the possibility of a full merger with Bedfordshire Police, in a bid to bridge a combined funding gap of more than 40m left by the coalition Government’s public sector cuts.

Other options include staying independent and extending the sharing of resources between the two forces – as already established through the combined firearms officers, dog unit and scientific services.

The meeting will begin at 10.30am in the council chamber. All are welcome.
