A 300-year-old family-run funeral directors has been named among the finalists of an inaugural regional awards ceremony.

Austin’s Funeral Service, which has offices in WGC, Welwyn and Knebworth, was shortlisted in the first ever East of England Business Champions Awards, being held at Tewin Bury Farm on October 13.

The company is in the running for the Service Excellence category.

The East of England Business Champions Awards covers small, medium and corporate businesses across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

Austin’s managing director Claire Austin, the 10th generation of the family to run the company, said: “Being a finalist in the Service Excellence category, across six counties is a great honour, and recognition of all our wonderful staff.

“We are all delighted and of course would love to go on and win.”

Other business from Times Territory to make the final include Longcroft Cat Hotel, a luxury cattery in Longcroft Lane, WGC.

Owner Abi Purser is nominated in the Best New Business category.

Meanwhile Viva Live Music, a live music specialist based in Hatfield, is the running for the Business Champions Awards and The Working Mum Employers’ awards.
