HERTFORDSHIRE will go to the polls tomorrow – with all but two of its boroughs holding nighttime counts.

Six parties have fielded candidates in Welwyn Hatfield and Potters Bar – the Conservatives, Green Party, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition and UKIP.

Herts County Council receives the lion’s share of each household’s council tax bill, around 75 per cent, and its responsibilities include education, highways, social services and waste policy.

Election officers in Welwyn Hatfield will begin counting votes for each of the seven wards as soon as polls close at 10pm.

North Herts, which includes Knebworth and Codicote, will do the same, as will Hertsmere, which includes Potters Bar.

But Watford and Three Rivers boroughs will hold their counts the following morning, so an overall county result will not be available until Friday.

The Conservatives currently hold 55 of 77 seats at County Hall.

The Welwyn Hatfield Times will be at the Welwyn Hatfield count, which starts at 10pm on Thursday.
