MORE than 500 kilometres of water pipes - enough to encircle Wembley Stadium 500 times - have been replaced by Three Valleys Water.

Residents in the Hatfield-based water company's supply region - which covers the whole of Times Territory - will benefit from the work which has taken four years and cost £80m.

Stephen Martin, head of programme management, said: "Three Valleys Water has been replacing pipes as part of a major project aimed at driving down burst rates and this is set to continue at the same pace over the next five years.

"Hitting the 500km mark is a significant milestone and we want to thank local residents and councils for their patience, help and understanding as we replace pipes in their communities.
