Hatfield Town Council has confirmed it is set to hold a by-election this autumn.

The local authority has confirmed that, as more than 10 residents requested a by-election in Hatfield East, one will be held on November 23.

HTC’s vacancy arose after former Independent member Caron Juggins was told she was no longer a councillor because she failed to attend a meeting in six months.

The council had been advertising a “casual vacancy”, which meant as long as a by-election was not demanded within 14 working days, the local authority could co-opt someone into the vacant seat.
