WORK on finally redeveloping Hatfield town centre could begin as early as next year, it had been announced.
Welwyn Hatfield Council has secured the 3.1m it was owed from a Government growth fund application it made almost two years ago, meaning the authority now has the cash to buy an existing part of the town centre through a Compulsory Purchase Order.
The council’s cabinet members approved the proposals last night (Tuesday), and if the plan is agreed at a full council meeting on October 13, then phase one of the project – redeveloping the Bill Salmon Centre and creating two new buildings at the end of the existing arcade – is expected to start next year.
