Hatfield town centre hopes dealt killer blow

HOPES for a new town centre for Hatfield have today (Thursday) been dealt a devastating blow.

It has been announced an application for a government grant has been rejected.

Welwyn Hatfield Council had hoped their application for £12.5m would be granted.

Instead, it has been allocated just £3.1m.

Reacting to the news, Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps said: "This is an absolutely devastating piece of news for Hatfield.

"It's now essential that a new workable plan is devised for Hatfield Town Centre.

"I don't think the existing developers plan to sit on this for five years without doing anything is acceptable"
