Hatfield will be holding a memorial event for the 100th anniversary of a World War One battle that claimed the lives of several local men.
Lance Corporal John Coe, Private Robert Putterill and Corporal George Victor Webster all lost their lives during the Battle of Passchendaele, a Western Front campaign fought between July and November in 1917.
The men’s names appear on Hatfield’s War Memorial in Great North Road, where a service will be held at 8pm on Monday, July 31.
One was killed while carrying out his duties as a stretcher bearer, another on the frontline while trying to relieve a colleague and Mr Webster was fatally injured as he brought his gun team into action.
Passchendaele poppy pins are available at Birchwood Leisure Centre, for a suggested minimum donation of £2.
