A young swimmer from the Hatfield Swim Club had a signed shirt from the London 2012 Olympics stolen within hours of receiving it.
Zac Carnell, 13, of Welwyn Garden City, won the shirt at the final night of the British Swimming Championships on Saturday.
The prize was given to him after winning a fun dance competition for those supporters in attendance.
The shirt had been signed by all the British swimmers at the London Olympics and was in a frame.
Zac’s mother Alice, said: “Because it was quite a size, someone from the venue said they would keep it in a safe place.
“When he went to get it, he went to the wrong desk. By the time he went to the right one, someone had walked off with it.
“It was in the VIP area and supposedly nobody was allowed in there.
“Someone told us they saw someone collect it.
“I don’t know how they knew where it was.”
