PLANS for a skate park in Hatfield have won the backing or residents organisers have said.

Environmental charity Groundwork Hertfordshire is working with Welwyn Hatfield Council and Hatfield Town Council to design, fundraise and build a skate park within the town.

A consultation on the plans took place in White Lion Square the Saturday before last and many residents appeared to back the scheme.

A spokeswoman for Groundwork Hertfordshire said: “We have started work with young people to design a park within the Link Drive car park.”

Landscape architect Graham Sanson told the WHT: “It generally went well, we had a petition which 183 people signed, so that seems quite a good response.

“And there weren’t any real negative opinions, which was good as well.”

Subject to funding and approval the organisation hopes to begin building the skate park in April or May next year.
