Residents rushed into the new Poundworld store after it opened its first ever store in Hatfield this morning, creating 30 new retail jobs in the process.

The 3,800 square foot store, which is located in the Town Centre (26-32), next to Peacocks, was officially opened by deputy mayor, councillor Lynne Sparks at 10am.

The new store was welcomed by a large queue of local shoppers, all eager to check out the bargains in store.

On Saturday, September 24, the store will be celebrating its first weekend of trading with free face painting and an appearance from Poundworld’s official mascot, Percy the Pound.

Sasan Jahanabazy, Poundworld area manager, said: “This morning’s opening was a great success. It was fantastic to welcome Hatfield shoppers through our doors for the first time.

“We hope that we’ve saved them, and will continue to save them, a lot of money on their weekly shop.”

Cllr Bernard Sarson, executive member for business, partnerships and public health for Welwyn Hatfield Council, said: “Poundworld is an exciting addition to Hatfield town centre and we’re very pleased to welcome another national retailer to the town following the arrival of Peacocks last year.

“It is a vote of confidence in Hatfield as our investment programme continues to gather pace and improve the environment for shoppers, residents and businesses.”
