A Hatfield school has been forced to close because of “severe” flooding and firefighters are on the scene.

De Havilland School in Travellers Lane has posted the following message online: “Frustratingly the school is closed today, Friday 16th September due to severe flooding.

“The fire brigade are here and staff are doing everything possible to ensure we can open on Monday.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will keep you updated.

“We would ask that you do not telephone the school whilst we are dealing with this emergency.

“Thank you for your continued support.”
