SURVIVORS of the Hatfield rail crash were welcomed to the Houses of Parliament by MP Grant Shapps.

On October 17, 2000, the small group were onboard the 12.10pm bound for Leeds as it left King’s Cross; 13 minutes later and travelling at 115mph it derailed just south of Hatfield station killing four men.

Mr Shapps said: “It’s now 12 years since that rail crash, but it’s clear that for those involved they still live with the consequences.

“I was interested to hear about how that day changed their lives and how they have managed to force changes in the law to address what happened back then. “All of us who live in Hatfield want to remember the victims of that tragedy and it was a pleasure to host a group of the survivors in Parliament today.”
