Brett Aggregates’ plan to develop a quarry in Hatfield at Ellenbrook Fields has been met with opposition from a residents’ association group.

Smallford Residents’ Association has warned against allowing the building materials group to develop a 125 acre quarry in Ellenbrook Fields, and criticised its consultation process.

An association spokesperson said: “As an industrial site it is going to kill the Green Belt in this area, and cause traffic gridlock in Hatfield, St Albans, the A414, and Oaklands Lane.

“The noise, dust, pollution and lighting effects are also going to greatly damage the area.”

However, Mike Courts, Brett Aggregates director of planning, said: “Any permission granted will have conditions attached to control each of those matters.”
