A nine-year-old girl from Hatfield used her cake-decorating skills to promote Remembrance Day.
Maisy Buckingham, who lives in Campion Road and goes to Green Lanes Primary School, made the cake as part of a school event to show parents ‘why Green Lanes is great’. She made the poppies herself out of icing.
All pupils at the school were invited to enter work themed around history or geography, and parents came along in the evening to see what the children had made.
Maisy’s mum Jo Roberts, who works as a hairdresser, said: “I helped her with the cake but the actual poppies she did all by herself.
“They were having an evening for school and the topic was history or geography. One of the subjects was cake.”
Maisy was awarded first prize in the competition, and was given a Green Lanes rosette.
“I thought it would be easy but it wasn’t,” Jo said. “It took her about two hours to do. She got first prize.
“It was lovely, she brought it home that evening and we ate it. She’s very happy and proud about winning”
