Suspected arsonists set a Hatfield school building on fire last night.

Firefighters from Hatfield and Potters bar rushed to Travellers Lane at about 11pm after a security guard watching the classrooms noticed the blaze.

The flames had spread across the external cladding of the school building.

It is believed to have been started deliberately.

De Havilland Primary School headteacher Andrew Peck told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “There was no fire on our site last night.

“The buildings are fine.

“It’s certainly not us.

“Our site manager has searched the whole site.”
