A weary walker from Hatfield has returned from his charity venture from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Michael Jones, 50, of Birchwood Avenue set off on at the end of December and returned on Wednesday, February 19.

Over £3,000 was raised for Hatfield Night Shelter.

Michael stayed in hotels occasionally but often stayed underneath the stars in his sleeping bag.

Michael said: “I’m still feeling a bit sore.

“My hips are aching.

“I am amazed by the Hatfield community - they have been really generous.”

Michael had always wanted to walk the length of the country and is really pleased he managed it.

He said: “I used to be homeless so I know what it is like.

“I have wanted to do it for ages.

“I never thought I could do it in seven weeks. It was 888 miles, plus a few extra when I got lost.”
