A HATFIELD man has appeared in court charged with killing a fellow drug dealer and burying him in his back garden.

Richard Clare admits slitting the throat of Peter McConnell, wrapping him up in brown parcel tape and throwing him into a makeshift grave.

The attack, which took place at Clare’s home in Fern Dells on Sunday, March 21, was only discovered three weeks later after Clare’s lodger was caught for shoplifting and told police about the 43-year-old’s death.

Clare, 38, admits killing McConnell but claims he did so in self-defence. He denies murder.

His trial, which started yesterday (Monday) and is expected to last two weeks, continues.
