A Hatfield man has been arrested in connection with arson after another fire was set in the Birchwood area.

The 20-year-old was arrested in Birchwood Park at around 3am this morning (Wednesday) by officers who came across a fire in the playing field.

The man was arrested on suspicion of arson and taken into custody but has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

It was the latest case of arson to hit Birchwood in the last two weeks and follows police assurance yesterday that they would be stepping up patrols in the area.

Police are still encouraging the public to report incidents of suspicious behaviour via the non-emergency number, 101.

Alternatively anyone with information about who is committing these crimes should contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
