One man has been arrested after a 17-year-old girl was assaulted twice in one night.

The 24-year-old from Hatfield was arrested on suspicion of assault.

He has been released on bail.

The attacks happened at around 2am on Sunday, July 26.

The first was outside the Town Inn pub and involved the girl and two men, one of whom is described as being in his 30s or 40s.

The girl was not injured.

The second happened in the Market Place, involving a larger group.

This time it is believed the girl was assaulted again by one of the men who are alleged to have assaulted her previously.

PC Chris Payne, the investigating officer, said: “We are also aware that the two groups moved into Old Rectory Lane following the incident in Market Place and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of what happened in any of these locations to please contact me.

“It was the early hours of Sunday morning and I am confident there will have been a number of people around.”

Anyone with information should ring PC Payne on 01707 806444.

Alternatively you can contact the Herts Police non-emergency number, 101, quoting crime reference number B2/15/2781.
