A LIGHTNING bolt sparked an emergency response in Hatfield.

Police and fire crews were called to Dragon Road after a fork of electricity struck terraced houses at around 9.10pm on Saturday.

Smoke was seen billowing from the roof with a fire engine from the town joined by a crew from St Albans on the scene.

Police had to knock down the doors of one house and fire crews sealed off the area.

A neighbour told the Welwyn Hatfield Times “it was quite mad” and said her own house was also struck by lightning – shorting out her Sky box.

Lisa Millar said: “Everyone was around, we had the head officer bloke from the fire brigade and two police cars came down.

“They rammed the door in. They had the ladders opened and the windows were open.”

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue had the blaze listed as a small fire in a roof space with crews finishing up on the scene at around 8.50pm.
