Members of the travelling community have been donating trolley loads of goods to support Hatfield Foodbank this winter.
Gypsies and travellers have been filling up foodbanks as part of what has been dubbed the foodbank challenge.
It works by nominating friends and family on social media to take part in the challenge by donating a trolley full of goods within 48 hours.
Staff at the Asda store in Hatfield have been left astounded by the amount donated this week.
Deputy general store manager Bernard Sullivan said they started noticed an influx in donations at the beginning of the week.
He told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We thought ‘what’s going?’ and then someone explained the challenge.
“I think it’s brilliant.
“I have never had so much donated.
“We’ve had an explosion of donations.
“It’s a massive wow for the foodbank.
“It’s unprecedented from any community and it’s a good few thousand pounds worth.”
The foodbank has already taken away three car-loads of donations and more keep flooding in.
