A HATFIELD family made light work of their Halloween celebrations – even though they had to carve out a pumpkin weighing a whopping NINE STONE.
The Wilkins family – mum Donna, dad Richard, daughter Lauren, nine, five-year-old son Matthew and Donna’s sister Dawn Ilott – spent Sunday at home in ButterCup Close, creating a gigantic Jack O’ Lantern from the monster vegetable.
Care worker Donna, 36, got the mammoth marrow from an elderly client who had grown it in her back garden.
It took the family three hours to scoop out the monster vegetable and carve the intricate design featuring horses, skulls, graveyards and trees, but Donna said it was worth the effort.
“It was quite bright when it was lit up,” she said. “The photos don’t really do it justice. It was quite different.”
