A distraction theft victim has spoken out to warn others of cunning thieves.

The 67-year-old woman was targeted in Tesco car park, Oldings Corner, Hatfield.

She said: “I had just finished shopping. It was about 1pm. I wasn’t aware of anyone watching me, but thinking back they must have been.

“I was back in my car ready to drive off when a man knocked on my window and actually opened my car door. He said ‘I’m lost. Please, please help me’.

“He said ‘can you get out of the car?’. It should have struck chords, but I didn’t think anything of it.”

The man distracted her with a map and asked for directions to go north.

While doing this, another person opened the passenger door and took a card wallet from her handbag, which was in the footwell.

The woman did not realise anything was amiss until the evening when she went looking for her bus pass.
