A MAN killed when his car hit a tree has today (Monday) been named by police.

Sunanda Senanayake, from Hatfield, was driving along the A1000 Great North Road in Brookmans Park, when the crash happened.

The 58-year-old lost control of his silver Mercedes, skidded off the road and hit a tree, at about 5am on Saturday.

The car ended up on its roof.

Ambulance crews from WGC and Potters Bar, and an intensive care consultant from the QE2 Hospital, attended the scene.

Gary Sanderson, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "On our arrival the paramedics worked closley with the doctor, but after their best efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our thoughts are firmly with his family and friends at this tragic time."

Police have renewed their appeal for two drivers who may have seen the accident, to get in contact.

Pc Dee Rayner said: "We believe at least two vehicles went past the area at around 5am and we are appealing for those drivers to come forward as vital witnesses."

Anyone with information should contact Pc Rayner in the road death investigation unit on 0845 33 00 222.
