A NEW drug for people with epilepsy was launched this week by a company based in Hatfield.

Japanese drug firm Eisai, which has its UK head office in Mosquito Way, has announced the launch of Zebinix, a novel, once-daily drug for adults who suffer from partial-onset seizures – the most common type of epilepsy.

Patients using Zebinix have reported better seizure control, health-related quality of life and a reduction in depressive feelings, which can be a symptom of poorly controlled epilepsy.

Eisai UK managing director Nick Burgin said: “The effective treatment of patients with partial-onset seizures remains a major challenge for clinicians as well as patients and their families.

“We are delighted to be bringing patients such a promising new treatment.”
